The Delray Beach cultural scene recently welcomed a new power player. Arts Warehouse, an arts incubator run by the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, aims to offer career support to emerging and mid-level artists. Located in the Pineapple Grove Arts District, the 15,000-square-foot space is made up of studios, a gallery, and classrooms. In addition to rotating exhibitions, Arts Warehouse hosts business-related workshops—such as “Social Media for Creatives” and “Branding on a Budget”—that are open to its artists in residence and the general public. “I hope we truly serve as an authentic arts incubator to help artists become career entrepreneurs,” says manager Jill Brown.
Arts Warehouse’s gallery program will also provide ample exposure for artists. For their latest exhibition, entitled “Free on the Inside,” Brown and assistant Grace Gdaniec issued an open call for submissions that interpret the titular concept. The idea originated from an outreach initiative that tries to impart positive communication skills by teaching poetry to those incarcerated in South Florida prisons. This show will feature poems by participating inmates alongside visual artworks. “We thought of a way to showcase their poems, giving them some life,” says Gdaniec, who timed the exhibit to run during National Poetry Month. “Free on the Inside” debuts April 6 as part of Delray’s First Friday Art Walk, and will remain on view all month.
