Due South Does Oktoberfest

Stephen Brown

As if you needed another reason to head to Boynton Beach brewery Due South Brewing Co., the second annual Oktoberfest Celebration is set to begin. From October 3-5, Due South will unleash the seasonal brews for this three-day brouhaha at the warehouse brewery and taproom. On the seasonal tap are a special Oktoberfest Märzen and the spiced-up Isle MaGourdo pumpkin ale as well as nine cask-conditioned ditties. A different food truck will be on hand each day to match the limited-edition beer releases.

Oktoberfest is not the only news for the Boynton Beach brewer this month. The following weekend, Due South will pack its beers and head to Colorado for the Great American Beer Festival, the country’s largest and best annual craft beer festival. A first for the one-and-a-half-year-old brewery, brewers Mike Halker and Mike Jurewicz are submitting five beers for the festival: Caramel Cream Ale, Café Ole Espresso Porter, Bridgeport Scotch Ale, Category 4 IPA and Category 5 IPA.

Due South is one of only seven Florida breweries making the trek. Also making the trip from the Sunshine State are 7venth Sun Brewing Co. from Dunedin, Cigar City Brewing from Tampa, Darwin Brewing Co. out of Sarasota, Florida Beer Co. hailing from Cape Canaveral, Funky Buddha Brewery from Oakland Park and Swamp Head Brewery by way of Gainesville. An additional 615 breweries, brewpubs, home brewers and brew clubs from other parts of the country will be on hand, pouring more than 2,800 different beers and vying for a coveted medal in one of 75 beer-style categories. Send the boys from Due South some good cosmic vibes as they compete against the best in American craft brewing.
