Veronica Webb, who spends much of the winter in Palm Beach for business and pleasure, has strutted down catwalks and posed as a cover girl for prominent fashion titles such as Vogue and Elle. Now she’s traded in her stilettos for shears with her own fashion line on the shopping website OpenSky. Yet Webb isn’t following in the footsteps of the famous designers who have dressed her, but rather her mother, a nurse who made her family’s clothes.

“My mother was petite, my sister was voluptuous and I was very tall,” Webb says. “So I grew up watching my mother create magic. She knew how to cut things so that we all looked beautiful and chic.”
Webb’s line consists of two T-shirts, a cardigan, a floral tunic and a flowy silk blouse. Each piece is perfect for “a lifestyle that’s a tightrope walk between business and casual, week and weekend, mom and entrepreneur,” she says. A Detroit native and an arts aficionada, Webb wrote the afterword for Heart Soul Detroit, featuring prominent residents of her hometown. “With the [collapse] in the job and housing markets, the arts have been devastated,” she says. “We’re trying to [change that].”
