I am a lipstick hoarder. At last count, I had stashed away, in various purses, drawers and bags, a whopping 22 tubes in varying shades of red, plum and deep mauve; from matte to colored gloss, I have it all. And the majority of them have one thing in common (and no, it’s not, as someone said, that they are all “the same color”)—they bleed. No matter the formula, a couple hours after I apply, it looks like my lipstick is trying to migrate down my chin.
There are, I am sure, numerous tricks to stop this from happening, including buying a matching lip liner for each and every shade. And then I’d have to rubber band the matching liner and lipstick together so as not to mistakenly end up with a dark ruby line around mauve-shaded lips. Plus, if I did that, I’d have to buy storage space just to contain them all.
I found the perfect solution in Bite Beauty’s Line & Define Lip Primer ($22, sephora.com). First of all, it’s translucent, so it goes with every color, because it has no color (and you don’t have to worry about getting the line just right). It primes and conditions lips with jojoba oil and argan oil to help extend the wear of lipsticks. It worked great on my Burberry lipstick, which only slightly feathers. The real test was using it with my Chanel liquid lipstick, which is notorious for heading south after only an hour.
I would say it passed with flying colors, but my lipstick didn’t budge!
