Color Therapy

If you’re a brunette with color-treated hair, you probably love your highlights … for exactly two weeks. After that, it starts to look duller and duller until it reaches the point of no return: the dreaded mousy state. Right?

Matrix Biolage Colortherapie shampoo and Color Bloom Masque conditioner

Then there is the issue is softness and shine. Give it enough processing and your hair will revolt—especially if it’s, like mine, unruly to begin with.

In the perennial search to find a product that actually works, I tried the new Biolage Colortherapie range from Matrix—namely, the shampoo, conditioner and “Color Bloom Masque.” Though these didn’t treat the problems across the board, they were definitely great performers on the color maintenance front. After a couple of weeks using the shampoo and conditioner, with occasional treatments with the mask, my color still looked true. For me, that’s a huge plus.

On the softness and shine front, they didn’t do as well—at least not for my hair type. The Color Bloom Masque did deliver more control and luster, so I would recommend it over the conditioner. I understand there is a Shine Shake spray in the range, so I may give that a try and report back. That might be the answer for controlling frizz and difficult hair in the lovely Florida climate.
