When he was a little boy, jewelry designer Marco Bicego visited his father's goldsmith factory every summer. He watched the craftsmen, eventually trying the art out for himself. Jewelry making is in his blood, and he uses the medium to tell his own story. "My aim [is] to express my personal vision of life, my passions and my curiosity through jewelry design," says Bicego.
On Tuesday, November 13, Marco Bicego will be at the Saks Fifth Avenue in Palm Beach Gardens to chat about his designs and present his Murano and Siviglia Sapphire collections. These collections are in step with Bicego's signature aesthetic. With 12 years of design experience under his belt, Bicego has perfected a classic style, one that can only be described as everyday luxury.
"I blend old world Italian craftsmanship with tradition, passion and imagination in my collections," says Bicego. "My pieces are meant to be worn every day, not stored away in a jewelry box waiting for an occasion."
The Siviglia Sapphire series is one of a kind, yet will feel right at home in any personal collection. Every piece was handmade by artisans and features gold siviglia beans and brilliant sapphires. Pair a colorful earring, necklace or bracelet with a more subdued ensemble and you'll have a chic, timeless look.
The Murano collection has deep roots in Bicego's home country. Named for and inspired by the glassmaking village of Murano (located off the shores of Venice), pieces in the Murano series pay homage to the artisanship, architecture and vibrant colors of the small island. Semi-precious stones, including amethyst and citrine, are set in 18-karat gold. Bicego describes the fusion of gold and stone as "evocative of the Venetian buildings, exuding character, charm and individuality while staying true to their Italian heritage." Ranging in cost from $1,500 up to $15,000, the Murano and Siviglia Sapphire collections are priced for many pocketbooks.
In addition to telling his own story, Bicego uses his jewelry to connect with his customers. "When I am designing, I have in mind a dynamic, curious woman," he says. His favorite part of the design process is when he's able to connect with his patrons on the selling floor. This marriage of Italian craftsmanship and sensitivity to his customer base is what sets Bicego apart from the rest.
Normally, Bicego's art does all the talking. Tomorrow, however, you can meet the man behind the jewelry. Pick his brain while you pick out a piece that will remain a favorite for years to come.
Marco Bicego will be at the Palm Beach Gardens Saks Fifth Avenue tomorrow, Tuesday November 13, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. To learn more about Bicego, visit his website at marcobicego.com.
