This summer, many local artists and performers are making noise in Palm Beach and beyond. Below are a few nuggets of information you can't afford to ignore.

  • Yesterday, the winners of Palm Beach Photographic Centre's 2013 INFOCUS Juried Show were announced. Debbie Gans of Palm Beach Gardens won Best of Show and was awarded a cash prize of $950 for her entry, "Caught in the Fun." PBPC also gave out two merit awards, to Ni Rong of Palm Beach for "The Gaze" and Marjorie Neu of New York for "Milky Way in Namibia." This year's INFOCUS exhibition was juried by National Geographic's Raymond Gehman and will be on display through August 17.

  • A young Maltz Jupiter Theatre performer is about to take Broadway by storm. Eleven-year-old Skye Alyssa Friedman will join the cast of Broadway's Annie!, taking on four roles in the production. A Jupiter resident, Friedman has sharpened her skills in the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's Conservatory of Performing Arts program and has appeared in many Maltz productions including Oklahoma!, Seussical Jr., and Peter Pan.
Jupiter resident Skye Alyssa Friedman will travel to Manhattan in July to begin rehearsals for Annie!
  • Finally, on the evening of July 8, you can catch a live reading of a new play from local playwright Mark Perlberg entitled The Timmins Children. Set in 1992, the play depicts an interview between a Canadian physician and a local reporter. As the play progresses, it's revealed that the two share an unfortunate past. This free reading will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Palm Beach Dramaworks in Downtown West Palm Beach.
Catch a free reading of The Timmins Children on July 8.
