A Holiday Tradition

Christmas would not be Christmas without the Rockettes.

The precision dance troupe, known for its members' dazzling smiles and impossibly high kicks, call Radio City Music Hall in New York City home, but takes its legendary Christmas show on the road every year to the delight of non-New Yorkers everywhere. In the Palm Beach area, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Starring The Rockettes is onstage at the Kravis Center through Sunday, December 8.

It is, indeed, a "spectacular" way to usher in the holiday season, especially in the company of children, whose eyes light up at the sweetly reimagined Nutcracker, starring a huge, plush mouse queen and a full complement of teddy bears. Children of all ages will love the tribute to "Santa's favorite toy," the toy soldier, in which the Rockettes march with ultra-precise steps and fall, domino-like, at the firing of a make-believe cannon.

During the 3-D ride through New York City, the Rockettes board a double-decker tour bus and glide through the city's gloriously bedecked streets and landmarks. But perhaps the most magical moment of all is The Living Nativity, depicting the three magi walking beneath the Star of Bethlehem to witness the miracle. The costumes, the music and the drama are so breathtaking that even Scrooge types will get misty.

Highly recommended for anyone, of any age, who still believes in the wonder of Christmas. Tickets start at $40; kravis.org.
