Chick Corea and Béla Fleck in Concert

March 21, 2013  8:00 PM

An evening of unparalleled musical improvisation comes to the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts when pianist Chick Corea tackles the keys and prodigy Béla Fleck gets down to picking the banjo. Two master musicians in their own right, Corea and Fleck come from two very different musical backgrounds—Corea a protégé of the avant-garde jazz movement and fusion of the 1960s and 70s, with a resume that includes stints with Miles Davis, Stan Getz and Herbie Hancock; while Fleck, widely recognized as the world’s most technically proficient and innovative banjo players (take that Steve Martin), is a bluegrass champion, a folk hero and a classical savant, who coincidently names Corea as one of his musical influences—but make it work, as heard in their 2007 album, The Enchantment. The composition between the two, at once improvisational jazz, a bit of Ragtime, a little hoedown and a smidge of the classical all rolled into one, is something to be heard and experienced.
