SEA LEVEL RISE SYMPOSIUM AT OXBRIDGE ACADEMY

The general public is invited to join the discussion about the increasing impact of sea level rise on Florida at an all-day symposium, featuring more than 45 leading experts on topics ranging from climate change and oceanography to tourism and economic development. Presented by the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation for the Everglades, Oxbridge Academy and the League of Women Voters of Palm Beach County, the program is designed to foster a collaborative effort to developing solutions for South Florida’s growing water concerns.

   The lineup of esteemed speakers includes John Englander, global oceanographer, consultant and author; Stan Bronson, executive director of Florida Earth Foundation; Jon Van Arnam, assistant administrator for Palm Beach County; Gary Hines, senior vice president of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County; Jim Murley, executive director of the South Florida Regional Planning Council; Dr. Jayantha Obeysekera, director of the Hydrologic and Environmental Systems Modeling Department at the South Florida Water Management District;  State Rep. Mark Pafford, D-West Palm Beach; Jorge Pesquera, president and chief operating officer of the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau;  Robert Robbins, director of Palm Beach County’s Department of Environmental Resources Management; Dr. Tara Root, associate professor in the Department of Geosciences at Florida Atlantic University; Chuck Shaw, chairman of the Palm Beach County School Board; Fred H. Sklar, associate editor of the Ecological Society of America’s Ecology; Glenn Thomas, nationally renowned expert on innovation solutions for schools and the driving force behind the creation of Florida’s first “green” school, Pine Jog Elementary School;  Dr. Hal Wanless,  professor and chair of the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Miami;  Diana Wilson, education associate at the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation; and more.

  • The symposium will be held in the auditorium at Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches on Friday, July 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The cost to attend is $30 and includes breakfast, lunch and snacks.
  • Scholarships are available for teachers, college and high school students.
