The Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches will host its 19th Annual Book Luncheon featuring Leslie Maitland, author and award–winning investigative reporter for The New York Times, on Wednesday, November 20, at 12 p.m. at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. The event kicks off the Annual Book Festival, featuring 20 author events through April 2014 throughout the Palm Beaches.
Maitland will discuss her book, Crossing the Borders of Time: A True Story of War, Exile, and Love Reclaimed. The book follows the lives of a young couple: Maitland’s mother—an 18-year-old Jewish girl and the Catholic Frenchman she loved—torn apart by war and their families’ disapproval in the 1940’s, and reunited more than 50 years later. Maitland is the behind-the-scenes heroine whose investigative skills reconnected the lost Frenchman and mom with him so many years later.
The Signature Book Luncheon co-chairs are Edie Broida and Carol Pressler. Honorary Chair is Zelda Mason.
