The Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience continues its popular public lecture series in Palm Beach with a talk by Scientific Director Dr. Ryohei Yasuda and musical performances by two distinguished young American soloists.
In the second of four events in the “Science Meets Music” series, Dr. Yasuda will present “The Moment of Memory Formation: A Spotlight on the Brain.” His research focuses on the dendritic spines that enable memory storage. Impairments in learning and memory that are common in some brain disorders, like Alzheimer’s, result from disruptions in biochemical reactions in those spines. Dr. Yasuda’s work was recently published in the prestigious journal, Science.
Two award-winning musicians, presented by the American Friends of Kronberg Academy, will also perform: Itamar Zorman, winner of the 2011 International Tchaikovksy Competition in Russia, will play violin. Yoonie Han, a South Korean musician who has won top prizes in international competitions, will play piano.
