The Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches welcomes Mark Russ Federman, author of Russ & Daughters and former owner and proprietor of the beloved appetizing store on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, for a Bagel Brunch on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Palm Beach Gardens and 2:00 p.m. in Boynton Beach.
The Bagel Brunch with author Mark Russ Federman is part of the 19th annual Mandel JCC Book Festival. Federman’s book, Russ & Daughters: Reflections and Recipes from the House that Herring Built, tells the delightful, mouthwatering story of an immigrant family's journey from a pushcart in 1907 to “New York's most hallowed shrine to the miracle of caviar, smoked salmon, ethereal herring and silken chopped liver,” according to The New York Times Magazine.
Mark Russ Federman, grandson of founder Joel Russ, took over Russ & Daughters from his parents in 1978 and passed it to his daughter, Niki, and nephew Josh, in 2009. Russ & Daughters is one of the last remaining appetizing shops in the country, and this year marks its 100th anniversary.
