Seniors 65 years and older with a knack for singing are invited to audition for Tri-Rail’s 9th annual “Senior Idol” on Tues., April 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Festival Flea Market Mall, located at 2900 W. Sample Road in Pompano Beach. As part of this exciting event, sponsored in part by Baptist Health South Florida, Boomer Times, Festival Flea Market Mall and John Knox Village, 12 finalists will be chosen to sing their way to the top at the final competition for the chance to win a $500 cash prize, free pass to ride Tri-Rail for one year and the title of “Senior Idol.”
Tri-Rail’s “Senior Idol” is open to solo singers who are residents of Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties. A panel of judges will select the 12 contestants who will go on to compete in the final competition at Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, May 18.
Since the inaugural competition in 2006, more than 800 tri-county seniors have auditioned for the chance to become a finalist and compete in the coveted competition. Past winners include Sonny Allegro of Hollywood, Janet Anguilli of Ft. Lauderdale, Ed Pierson of Weston, Robert Kolodin of Tamarac, Josephine Dolce of Highland Beach, Sharon Lovett of West Palm Beach and 2013 winner Tony Mazza of Deerfield Beach.
