If Sharknado still has your head spinning, head on over to the South Florida Science Center & Aquarium for a dose of reality during its annual Shark Preservation Week. Presented by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, the week-long event starts on Saturday, August 9 and coincides with the always-popular Discover Channel Shark Week.
Running through Friday, August 15, with special shark-inspired crafts, activities and presentations, on-going activities include: touch tank demos and feedings, shark tooth labs, Science on a Sphere presentations on shark migration, edible ocean and shark hat crafts, shark conservation movies, promise-pact to preserve sharks.
The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation will show two films – This is Your Ocean: Sharks and Whale Sharks of the Yucatan, plus they will premiere the trailer from their newest film, Sharks of the World, and discuss the latest in shark research and conservation. Additionally, Professor Clark the Science Shark will be on-site for opening day, while special guest Hannah Medd, a local marine biologist working to effectively apply scientific research to the shark conservation message, will present and answer questions on Thursday, August 14.
