Family Art Exhibit: Charles N. Mills, Edith Humphreys and Denise Collins

New York-born artists Charles N. Mills, Edith Humphreys and Denise Collins shared more than a love for the arts – they also shared a bloodline and desire to create art that resonates with the soul and the past. The patriarch of the family, painter Charles Mills, who painted the entrance mural at Sistrunk Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale and passed away in October, 2013; his daughter, the sculptor Denise Collins; and his late niece, painter Edith Humphreys, will exhibit a collection of over 50 pieces of original art work inspired by the stories and ancestries of Africa, America and the Caribbean.

World Down Syndrome Day Art Exhibit

In recognition of World Down Syndrome Day (March 21st), Very Special Arts (VSA) will be exhibiting their artists’ works at the Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization Resource Center located at 915 S. Federal Highway in Boynton Beach. The exhibit will be open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from March 3rd through March 28th. The display will include representation from the digital art/photography, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, glass fusing, mixed media, abstract painting, classical painting, watercolor painting, and drawing/cartooning programs offered at VSA. Jazz | Leon Anderson Quintet

Having performed with Ellis Marsalis at the Jazz Festival in Rio de Janeiro and Marcus Roberts at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center, Anderson is recognized as a ‘Jazz Hero’ by the Jazz Journalists Association. Anderson was a featured soloist with The Marcus Roberts Trio, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, and at the “Great Saxophone Legends” concert at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. As a soloist he has also performed with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. His most recent engagements include performances with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestra de France, conducted by Seiji Ozawa.
