Arts Garage brings the culture

Stephen Brown

The most diverse and avant-garde art incubator in the county, Delray Beach’s Arts Garage has a full slate of performances, concerts and exhibitions on the docket for August and into September, begging the question: Is Palm Beach County such a cultural wasteland during the summer? I think not. Below is a quick run down of what’s happening at the garage, and as always, it's BYOW (bring your own whatever), so pack a picnic and schedule some time for some culture this summer, Jack.

August 3 Divas in Art

Featuring Ricky Rollick, Melissa St. John, Roxie DeVine and Lupita Hollywood, Divas in Art is a wine bar cabaret-style performance set to a backdrop of fabulous visual art. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.; tickets cost $15-$25 in advance (an extra $5 at the door) and can be purchased here

Creative City Collaborative, the nonprofit that operates Arts Garage, is the most ambitious art concept to come to the area in years, filling a niche by creating a cultural venue for emerging artists to find a platform to display their work and talent. Programs like the Jazz Project and Urban Underground give world-class and undiscovered musicians a stage to perform, not only giving Pineapple Grove a little more soul but also letting the poetry get out. The Arts Garage is a place where creativity and artistry find it’s footing and speaks to the world, an accessible place of healing and beauty. With such a diverse showing of contemporary artists coming through the space, there is sure to be something that moves the spirit in just about every person who walks through the door.
