Have a summer Olympics hangover? The Palm Beach Photographic Centre will cure what ails you. Sports photographer and PBPC instructor Adam Stoltman is fresh off assignment from the London games and has brought home some photographic gems that will be on display from August 24 through November 10 in the exhibition “Olympix 2012.”
A veteran of sports photography, London marked Stoltman’s 11th Olympic photographic session, with assignments from such storied publications, sporting and news alike, like Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, TIME and Newsweek.
“Each Olympics is a little different in terms of news, personality and experience, yet the passion of the athletes and the scope and grandeur of the spectacle is constant,” says Stoltman, who started his Olympic career at the Lake Placid games in 1980. “It is impossible to attend an Olympics without being affected by the spirit of the event, heart of the competitors, the obvious pride of the host city and the diversity of competitors and media from all corners of the globe.”
Olympix 2012 chronicles Stoltman’s participation in the London games, catching some of the most seminal moments and immortalizing them forever more. The Olympics goes beyond athletic feat, though that is a major proponent, bonding nations in the rigors of sport. These images capture that celebration and the feats of athletes at the top of their game in spectacular fashion.
Accompanying “Olympix 2012,” the next generation of photographers will be on display with “FOTOcamp Memories 2012.” During the summer break, nearly 50 students between the ages of 6 and 17 took part in PBPC’s summer camp, FOTOcamp. “FOTOcamp Memories 2012” is the culmination of these photographic workshops, from the basics of simple picture-taking with SLR cameras to processing state-of-the-art digital imaging.
On August 24, PBPC will host an opening night reception for “Olympix 2012” and “FOTOcamp Memories 2012” from 6-7:30 p.m. Along with the fabulous exhibitions, PBPC will announce its FOTOcamp Student of the Year. Admission is free.
