A new year means new resolutions. This year, resolve to kick bad habits and replace them with better ones.
If quitting smoking is at the top of your list, take advantage of the services offered by the Florida Department of Health. The Florida Quitline is a toll-free telephone service that provides counseling sessions and nicotine replacement therapy. If you feel the pang of addiction with your morning coffee or before bed, fret not; Quitline services and an online coach are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Looking to drop a few pounds in 2013? Take advantage of the outdoor fitness park in Lake Worth. The Tropical Ridge Fitness Park, located at 211 N. H St., opened in late 2012 and offers free use of $65,000 worth of outdoor exercise equipment. Those aged 14 and older have access to chin-up bars, a cross-country ski machine, an elliptical walker and a chest press.
Finally, if you have vowed to eat better, sample the goods at Francesca’s Terra Verde Farm Club. Each week, Francesca Golub (right), a former chef and food writer, and her team collect freshly harvested fruits and vegetables from local farms. Members of her club then place orders for produce and meat (hormone- and antibiotic-free, of course) and pick them up at Francesca’s Jupiter location. Unlike supermarkets, Francesca’s guarantees the carrot you’re eating tonight was in the ground fewer than 48 hours ago. Annual membership for the club is $50 the first year and $15 each year after. Delivery services and home-cooking classes are also available. (561-401-9123, terraverdefarmclub.com)
