John Wash (right), president of the International Polo Club Palm Beach, will receive the Palm Beach County Sports Commission’s prestigious President’s Award for his commitment to the sport of polo and the South Florida equestrian community.
With 7 years of dedicated service to the facility and its members, Wash was “completely taken by surprise” upon hearing of his receipt of the President’s Award by the PBCSC’s executive director, George Linley. In 37 years, this coveted distinction has only been proffered four times. This year, the Palm Beach County Hall of Fame Committee was unanimous in its selection of Mr. Wash.
As president, Wash expresses a deep concern for the interest of the sport. “We try to promote the sport in a positive fashion for the long-term vibrancy of the club,” he says. In an effort to debunk the myth of exclusivity, the club has opened its doors to the wider, non-equestrian community, donating its facility for local events, and even hosting an event to educate underprivileged youth.
At the International Polo Club on Sunday, March 24 the 37th Annual Palm Beach County Hall of Fame Banquet and Annual Sports Awards will honor John Wash and other distinguished individuals.
