Palm Beach Jewels: Jacqueline Kimberly

Mary Gibble

For more than five years, Jacqueline Kimberly has been creating artisan jewelry with a Palm Beach twist. We sat down with the designer to unearth her artistic process and find out what goes into each piece.

Connection to Palm Beach: Jacqueline's family moved to Palm Beach in 1982, but she left to attend the University of Tampa. She flirted with the idea of living in Palm Beach full-time throughout the 2000s, finally committing to the island in 2010.

Background: After receiving her bachelor's degree in physiology and a minor in fine art from the University of Tampa, she began developing and working in an art gallery. Her art career led her to Boston, where she became a private art curator and dealer. Throughout this time, she was creating art but was a bit too timid to show it off. "I was nervous about doing art," Jacqueline says. "I would do it and then never show it to anyone."

The Jewelry Bug: Jacqueline's jewelry-making endeavor began as a hobby. She loved working with beads and creating unique pieces with cool materials. This passion eventually snowballed into a full-time career.

Palm Beach Inspiration: Palm Beach's girly-girl personality and natural beauty are big inspirations in Jacqueline's jewelry. The colors and natural elements of the beach as well as Palm Beach's flora and fauna pop up in her collections. In her early design years, she also enjoyed scouring vintage shops for unique pieces to incorporate into her designs.

The Jacqueline Kimberly Woman: "She's just like me," Jacqueline jokes. She stresses that her clients aren't label obsessed, and prefer instead to spend their money on artisan pieces.

Evolution as a Designer: Her jewelry aesthetic has transitioned from chunky pieces with heavy beading to a more delicate feel featuring lots of draping details.

Favorite Materials: Jacqueline adores tourmaline and uses the stone throughout her collections. "I'm also back into pearls," she says.

Celebrity Fans: Courteney Cox, Amber Valletta and Toni Collette have all been spotted in Jacqueline's pieces. In addition, Blake Lively sported her jewelry in an episode of Gossip Girl and Maya Rudolph wore a piece in the film Away We Go.

Current Collections: Her Ceridwen Collection exemplifies who Jacqueline is as a woman and designer. "These pieces are ladylike and feminine with an unexpected edge," she says. She's also working on a more accessible collection entitled Uccellino–Italian for little bird–which will feature vermeil instead of gold and launches in July.

Available At: Jacqueline Kimberly's pieces are sold at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County in Lake Worth, at Michelle Farmer Collaborate in Palm Beach and through her website, jacquelinekimberly.com.
