Islamorada Lodging - The Moorings Village & Spa

Stephen Brown

When heading to Islamorada, there is no shortage of places to stay, from KOA camps sites to uber-luxe resorts. But if you are looking to indulge, all well-heeled travelers know The Moorings Village and Spa is the only place to lay your head. Island living at its finest, The Moorings has been the scene of many magazine photo-shoots, imbuing that Caribbean flavor without ever leaving stateside.

Unlike so many of Florida’s luxury resorts, where plush amenities means oversized grandeur and over-the-top ostentation, The Moorings consists of beachfront cottages and houses ranging is size from one-bedroom, 600-square-feet to two- and three-bedroom cottages as large as 2,400-square-feet.

Quiet, secluded and pristine, a weekend here is truly restorative, with amenities that compete with the best and brightest anywhere. The spa includes multiple massage and body treatments, available both in the beachside cabana and in the spa; a special facial treatment called Kobido, a Japanese facial ritual that includes a warm jade stone (Heaven Disks) massage; and a hands and feet treatment, perfect after a day out in the sea.

DIning is world-class, with Morada Bay Beach Café offering a tropical appeal, while Pierre’s is probably the best dining in all of the Keys. As the name suggests, the cuisine is steeped in the French tradition with a fusion of world cuisine and an abundance of local flavor. Fresh seafood is a must, with daily specials playing to the whim of the chef. The space itself is the picture of Florida Keys aesthetic: bright pastels with white wraparound porches and decks, while the inside takes on the moody, dark wood mystique of the Caribbean. Each aspect of the interior was meticulously chosen—from the teak tables and kilim rugs to the handcarved detailing on the walls and doors—to enhance the atmosphere and experience, making a meal here an event not soon forgotten. Reservations are suggested; call 305-664-3225. Dress is upscale casual.
