Downtown Summer Gallery Series

Art and culture enthusiasts will have a new reason to visit Downtown West Palm Beach this season when a free pop-up gallery launches with a rotating series of carefully curated artwork on Clematis Street. The pop-up will be housed in the historic Anthony Building on the 300-block of Clematis St.

The final exhibition in the series is an array of historical Florida artists curated by Phil Materio of McMow Art Glass. On display from Thursday, August 29 to Sunday, September 1, the showcase will feature more than 100 historical Florida works of art, some dating back to the 1890s, as well as works from iconic art group, Florida Highwaymen, who highlighted the state’s nature and local culture, and A.E. "Beanie" Backus, the man credited with teaching the young Highwaymen.

  • An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, August 30, from 6 to 11 p.m., where a painting by a Highwayman artist will be presented to the Palm Beach County Historical Society.
  • The pop-up gallery’s hours are 6 to 11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
