Change isn’t always bad, especially when it comes to the evolving world of art. Last year, Boca Raton’s Elaine Baker Gallery was renamed the Baker Sponder Gallery (561-241-3050). This year, it’s welcoming new artwork.
For its 2013-14 season, the gallery will exhibit works by artists never before seen in the gallery, including Natvar Bhavsar, Mauro Perucchetti and Sophie Ryder. From September 3 to October 31, visitors can catch a glimpse of the season in a preview display featuring works from upcoming exhibits, such as Self Portrait, Warhol (below) by Lluis Barba. Spanish-born Barba has been exhibiting internationally in solo and group shows since the early 1980s. His work often involves layering contemporary iconography over images steeped in the art history lexicon to create a decoupage effect intended to force a dialogue between the viewer and the subject.
