Heather Lowenthal (right) of Posh Parties gives tips for throwing a sophisticated poolside barbecue.
How would you elevate a poolside barbecue into a sophisticated Palm Beach affair? One way to elevate a casual event is to formalize the decor and setting and hire staff to cook and serve your guests. Something as simple as assigning seats will make an event seem more formal. The time of day will help elevate your event as well. Having your party in the evening already alludes to a more elegant affair. Should messy foods be avoided? Because a poolside barbeque is outside, you don’t necessarily have to stay away from messy foods. However, you can come up with creative ways to serve foods so they are more contained—like serving mashed potatoes in martini glasses. What type of entertainment would you suggest? Poolside, its always nice to hear a calypso band or steel drum to remind you of being on vacation. I also love a flamenco guitarist or even a DJ.
