MCB’s final performance of the season will take on the ballet based on Miguel de Cervantes’ famed novel, Don Quixote de la Mancha. Staged in four acts and eight scenes, the ballet transports the audience to imperial Spain, where heroic bullfighters, mysterious gypsies, gargantuan spiders, giants and Sancho all converge for a story of chivalry and love as Don Quixote searches for his beloved Dulcinea. Alexander Gorsky adapted the choreography from Marius Petipa, while the music is by Ludwig Minkus.

Although Don Quixote marks the end of the 2013-14 season, MCB is already looking toward the future, announcing its twenty-ninth season, which will include four company premieres:
On November 21, Miami City Ballet will debut its 2014-15 season at the Kravis Center with Romeo and Juliet set to a score by Sergei Prokofiev—a sold-out program during the company’s twenty-fifth season (get your tickets early!).

Hear the Music will kick off 2015 with three different works: Nine Sinatra Songs, Mercuric Tidings and Symphony in Three Movements.

At the end of February, Program III: Passion & Grace will include a Balanchine/Tchaikovsky classic, Allegro Brillante, and two premieres: Sweet Fields, choreographed by Twyla Tharp and set to American hymnal Shaker music and the U.S. premiere of Carmen, adapted from the Georges Bizet opera and choreographed by Richard Alston.

Wrapping the twenty-ninth season is Program IV: Points of Departure. The performance will include another Balanchine work, Raymonda Variations; the world premiere of a new 35-minute routine created by MCB choreographer Justin Peck; and the company premiere of The Concert (Or, the Perils of Everybody).
