5 Health-Conscious (really!) Happy Hours

1. 121 Tapas on the Water

Strategically located in the Fort Pierce Marina, 121 provides a sunset  view over the water along with a tasty selection of small plates. Locals love the seafood specialties, like deshelled king crab, U-10 scallops with jalapeño and corn chutney, and shrimp ceviche tostadas with coconut and cilantro. Although cocktails are absent, there’s a good selection of wine and craft beer, and the handful of sidewalk tables are dog-friendly.  (772-781-0943, 121 Tapas on the Water)

2. Echo

Some of the area’s best sushi is available at half-price on weekdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m., paired with half-off drinks from the Dragonfly Lounge. Patrons may choose from more than a dozen varieties of sushi by the piece, along with specialties such as tuna tataki, spicy yellow tail sashimi, seaweed sunomono salad, and a large assortment of rolls. Whether you sit in the lounge, terrace, or tranquil outdoor garden, it’s a great way to experience The Breakers’ pan-Asian restaurant. Palm Beach (561-802-4222, Echo)

3. Harvest Seasonal & Wine Bar

At Harvest, the emphasis is on “sustainable, health-conscious, and locally sourced cuisine.” Not surprisingly, the happy hour menu—available daily from 3 to 6 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to close—also changes with the seasons. The current selections include a pear and bleu flatbread with a fig glaze, edamame three ways (salty, spicy, and sweet), and crispy brussels sprouts, accompanied by seasonal cocktails and sangrias that incorporate cold-pressed juices. Best of all, most items are under 500 calories and GMO-free. Delray Beach (561-266-3239, Harvest Seasonal & Wine Bar)

4. Apeiro Kitchen and Bar

Apeiro focuses on the cooking of the Mediterranean basin, from Morocco and Italy to Greece and Portugal. Happy hour delights include a forest mushroom flatbread, eggplant croquettes, and pita served with a trio of spreads (hummus, caponata, and pistachio yogurt), available daily until 6:30 p.m. Wash it down with house-made sangria and specialty cocktails, such as a blood orange margarita or Santorini martini, and discover why many in the Mediterranean live a longer, more carefree life. 5. Mussel Beach

The formula here is made for shellfish lovers: Choose any mussel bowl and take $10 off the original price from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. The sauces range from lobster bisque to Florentine (spinach, shallots, roasted garlic cream, and fennel) and Thai (curry, coconut, lemongrass, and ginger). The mussels themselves are imported fresh daily from Prince Edward Island. Diners will also find crab cake sliders, chicken pot stickers, and cod lettuce wraps to complement half-priced wine, beer, and cocktails. Delray Beach (561-921-6464, Mussel Beach)
