4 Venues for Vegans

Slowly but surely, South Florida vegans are finding more venues in which to dine out, and many have a thoughtful selection of organic and sustainable wines as well. Even chains are getting into the act: Eateries with vegan-friendly menus or menu choices include the Yard House, Baja Café, P.F. Chang’s, Panera Bread and Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Four of our top local destinations are:

Christopher’s Kitchen

This elegant Palm Beach Gardens outpost is the brainchild of Christopher Slawson, an acclaimed organic and plant-based chef. The menu lists salads, veggie burgers and pizzas as well as raw and cooked specialties. (561-318-6191, christopherskitchenfl.com)

Darbster

Buffalo “wings” Hearts of palm cakes

The West Palm waterside deck has been augmented by a second location in Boca Raton. Offerings include fried green tomatoes, noodle-less pastas, tostadas and tacos, and many items are also gluten-free. (561-586-2622, darbster.com)

Maoz Vegetarian

Falafel sandwich

Healthy fast food? Why not? The Maoz chain originated in Amsterdam in 1991 and opened its first South Florida location in Boca’s Town Center Mall. Falafel is the specialty here, but don’t miss the hummus or sweet potato fries. (561-393-6269, maozusa.com)

The Garden of Vegan

This addition to the Delray dining scene features dishes free of dairy, wheat, soy, gluten and GMO. Many vegetables and herbs are grown in the restaurant’s own Tower Garden. Meal plans and school lunches are available, and you can buy burger mix to go. (561-404-5301, togovegan.com)
