Today’s unpredictable environment doesn’t mean you have to abandon your fitness goals. That being said, a change in societal norms has necessitated a shift in how we achieve those goals. Many local fitness professionals are now offering online classes and training that provide personal interaction and challenges. Get up off the couch and discover ways you can get in shape right where you are.
Online Personal Training
The Guide: Olivia Figueroa, a Palm Beach–based certified personal trainer, fitness model, and former ballet dancer, highlights the importance of form and lines as the fundamentals of her training style.
The Workouts: After an initial consultation to assess her clients’ individual needs and goals, Figueroa offers three options: access to her online membership that includes a library of workouts, barre classes, grocery lists, and recipes; weekly customized personal training plans with regular check-ins for additional guidance and structure; and virtual training via FaceTime and Zoom for those who prefer one-on-one instruction and accountability. Figueroa recommends a full hour of online training at least four times per week.
Private Pilates Instruction
The Guide: Jacquelyn Quesada Bevilacqua’s unique Studios Etc. in Palm Beach incorporates Labarre, Labarre Pilates, and Momentim Cycle.
The Workouts: Because a large portion of her clientele travels during the summer, Bevilacqua has been providing virtual private instruction for more than five years. She leads personalized 30-, 60-, and 90-minute sessions, created in consideration of a client’s needs and injuries, over FaceTime, Zoom, or Skype, depending on the client’s tech accessibility and preference. No equipment? No worries. Bevilacqua will personally loan and deliver any mats or props you might be missing.
Virtual Fitness Classes
The Guide: Fitness Hub Studios, the West Palm Beach gym known for hosting more than 100 engaging classes each week in its studios, has taken the fitness fun online.
The Workouts: Choose from more than 20 classes, including Zumba, Power Abs, Spartan HIIT, and even Belly Dancing, live-streamed every week to your living room. To participate, join the Fitness Hub Family Facebook page and click on the Events link. A desktop computer, laptop, or tablet is preferred for viewing. Necessary equipment (like a yoga mat, light dumbbells, or a chair) will be listed for each class, as well as the day and time it is offered.
The Guide: Tribe Studio, a group fitness boutique, has historically offered a variety of cutting-edge classes in its Jupiter studio, many of which members can now access online.
The Workouts: Tribe has compiled a curated selection of its most popular classes that require minimal equipment for its private Facebook group, The Tribe Studio Collective. These 60-minute offerings include everything from cardio, resistance band, and foam roller workouts to Pilates and yoga. Classes are live-streamed daily but can also be accessed in the library, so clients can work out on their own schedule.
