Alfresco April Events at Mounts Botanical Garden

Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden will host 22 community-minded alfresco events for people of all ages

Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden will host 22 community-minded alfresco events in April for people of all ages, including five Invigorating Body Flex classes, four Qi Jong sessions, three different Earth Day activities, and the always popular Spring Plant Sale.

“While the diminishing COVID-19 pandemic still continues to limit indoor events, outdoor activities in Palm Beach County’s oldest and largest botanical garden are still available for socially-distant mask-wearers of all ages,” says Mounts Curator-Director Rochelle Wolberg.

April Events:

Invigorating Body Flex

April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

$15 per class (includes Garden admission)

Registration is required; class size is limited.

Find joy in getting out and moving your body in a safe environment. Classes are led by certified fitness/yoga instructor Hegina Rodrigues; the class will be held in a different part of the garden each week.

Art in the Garden Drawing Class

April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (New Time)

$10 per class for members; $20 per class for nonmembers (includes full Garden admission)

Registration is required; class size is limited.

Experience the Garden’s tropical delights through an artist’s eyes while sketching in the display gardens. Learn the drawing process and how your inspiration can be recorded and translated into a sketch. Classes will be led by artist Marilyn Walter.

Guided Meditative Walk

April 2, from 9 to 10 a.m.

$5 for members; $15 for nonmembers

Registration is required; tour size is limited.

Qi Gong

April 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 10 to 11 a.m.

$10 per class for members; $25 per class for nonmembers (includes full Garden admission)

Registration is required; class size is limited.

Relieve stress and increase your metabolism, flexibility and strength. Qi Gong (pronounced chee-gong) is an ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique. The exercises include simple, slow movements (which mimic nature), meditation and focused breathing. Each class is limited to the first 10 to 15 people to register. Classes will be led by Roxanne Cumberland.

Inspired Listening Walk

April 9, from 9 to 10 a.m.

$5 for members; $15 for nonmembers

Registration is required; tour size is limited.

Dogs’ Day in the Garden

April 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (last entry at 2 pm)

Free for members; $10 for non-members; $5 for children ages 5-12

Guidelines:

  • Non-retractable leashes only; retractable leashes are not permitted.
  • No more than one dog per adult will be admitted.
  • Rabies vaccination must be current.
  • Visitors should bring their own and water treats for the puppies.

Earth Day Activities (April 22)

Native Plants Tour, 9:30 to 11 a.m.

$5 for members; $15 for nonmembers

Registration is required; tour size is limited.

Horticulturist Joshua Spall will lead a special tour of Florida native plants located throughout the garden.

Mommy and Me: Nature Wand Make & Take, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Free for members; $10 for non-members; $5 for children ages 5-12

Purchase admission tickets at the gate.

The Magic of Bugs and Their Chinese Symbols, 3 to 5 p.m.

$20 for members; $25 for nonmembers

Registration is required; class size is limited.  Appropriate for ages 8-12.

Design a Chinese fold-out book of insects! Class will be led by artist Jean Howard. This is an after-hours class; meet at the front entrance. The class will be held outside, under cover.

Spring Plant Sale

April 24 and 25, Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Free for members; non-member advance tickets cost $10; tickets for children ages 5-12 cost $5. Advance ticket sales close at noon on April 23.

Gate admission costs $12 and $5 (credit card only).

Visitors can stroll in a relaxed environment while shopping for a wide variety of plants, shrubs, trees, garden accessories, and fine crafts. The Mounts Botanical Garden Nursery and Vintage Thrift Shop will also be open with a variety of plants and unique treasures for home and garden.

Mommy and Me: Flower Cone Make & Take

April 30, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Free for members; $10 for non-members; $5 for children ages 5-12

Purchase admission tickets at the gate.
