Alzheimer’s & Caregiving Educational Conference Comes to Boca Raton

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America will host the free conference at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center on November 19

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) will host the free Alzheimer’s & Caregiving Educational Conference at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center November 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The free conference is open to all and will invite participants to learn from experts in the field of Alzheimer’s disease, brain health, and caregiving. Advance registration is highly recommended and is available by visiting alzfdn.org/tour.

Participants can drop in on sessions throughout the day, including:

“Brain Health and Alzheimer’s Disease: Trials, Treatments, and Prevention”

Dr. James Galvin, professor and Alexandria and Bernard Schoninger Endowed Chair for Memory Disorders at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will discuss healthy brain aging and how to build a better and healthier brain as we age. He will discuss Alzheimer’s disease risk factors, signs and symptoms, and current symptomatic and disease modifying therapies, as well as novel clinical trials with emerging treatments and prevention strategies.

“Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders: Strategies for Interpreting and Addressing Behaviors”

Dr. Karen L. Gilbert, vice president of Education and Quality Assurance for the West Palm Beach-based Alzheimer’s Community Care, and Blake Davis, education program manager for Alzheimer’s Community Care for the Palm Beach and Treasure Coast Sheriff’s offices, will address how behaviors become forms of communication and how caregivers can interpret and best address challenging situations with the person for whom they are caring.

“The Road to Better Treatment: A Caregiver’s Guide to Clinical Trials

Dr. Jeremy Koppel, geriatric psychiatrist and co-director of Northwell’s Litwin-Zucker Research Center for the Study of Alzheimer’s Disease, will explain the basics of clinical trials, how people can participate, and factors to consider before deciding to enroll in a clinical trial.
