Johnny Cash was many things: outlaw, hero, advocate, “man in black,” husband, father, addict, Christian. But above all, he was a musician. The Theatre at Arts Garage will celebrate the man, and his music, with the Off-Broadway production Ring of Fire: The Johnny Cash Musical from June 20 to July 13.
Taking its name from the iconic Cash song of the same name, “Ring of Fire” may have a rather ominous connotation – the Pacific Ring of Fire is a hotbed for earthquakes and volcanic activity – the song itself, written by June Carter (pictured right with Johnny Cash), is all about falling in love. The musical pulls songs from Johnny Cash’s iconic songbook, telling his story, a story of love and faith, struggle and success, and family and redemption in a way that only Cash can.
