Boca Helping Hands is already getting into the holiday spirit. To help underserved families who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic enjoy Thanksgiving, the community-based nonprofit is seeking donations for its 2020 Thanksgiving Box Brigade program. The program provides turkeys and a box filled with everything a family will need to prepare a holiday meal.
Members of the community can fill a box with Thanksgiving dinner essentials or host a Fall Food Drive to benefit Boca Helping Hands. Alternatively, people can cover the cost of a box ($27.20) with a donation on the organization’s website. All filled boxes must be received at Boca Helping Hands by Monday, November 16.
Each year, Boca Helping Hands distributes 2,000 turkeys and Thanksgiving meal boxes. This year, having expanded to four locations and with the additional families that have registered for food assistance due to COVID-19, the organization estimates it will need 2,500 turkeys and filled boxes.
Boca Helping Hands will have empty boxes available, which can be reserved now for pick-ups starting the first week of October. Each 10” x 10” x 10” box must contain:
6 oz. Stove Top stuffing mix (1)
10.5 oz. canned gravy (1, no glass)
1.56 oz. powdered drink mix (1)
15 oz. canned vegetables (4)
15 oz. canned fruit or fruit cocktail (2)
4 oz. instant mashed potatoes mix (2)
29 oz. canned yams (1)
14 oz. cranberry sauce (1)
15 oz. canned pie filling (1)
9″ ready-made graham cracker pie crust (1, non-perishable)
“We are so grateful to the community each year for their food drives and Thanksgiving box donations,” said Executive Director Greg Hazle. “Their generosity means that people who would not otherwise be able to sit down for a holiday meal can enjoy one with their family.”
This year, Boca Helping Hands will distribute Thanksgiving boxes to current clients at all four of its food distribution locations. To participate, clients must register between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31.
The Saturday before Thanksgiving (November 21), a drive-thru distributions will take place at the West Boca and Lantana locations. The Sunday before Thanksgiving, drive-thru distributions will happen at Boca Helping Hands main East Boca location and its Boynton Beach location.
