Delray Beach Chorale’s Spring Concert

Celebrate spring with some of the world’s most famous opera pieces at the Delray Beach Chorale’s annual spring concert, “Great Moments at the Opera,” on March 29 and April 4. The 60-member chorus, led by conductor and Artistic Director Eric Keiper, will perform masterworks from some of opera’s most famous composers, including Puccini, Verdi, Donizetti, Britten and Rossini. To add depth to the musical offerings, DBC’s five artists-in-residence soloists will perform alongside the chorus and orchestral ensemble, bringing to life movements from La Traviata, Carmen and Rigoletto.

The artist-in-residence soloists include Alicia Branch (soprano), Monica Hidalgo (mezzo soprano), Myngoe Brashears (countertenor), Jorge L. Toro (tenor) and William R. Stafford (baritone), who will not just be performing as soloists but also act as section leaders. As part of DBC’s Music Academy, the five young professional singers are given scholarships and serve as voice teachers. The apprentice program is an extension of this, with a select group of high school students joining the chorus to perform in DBC’s major concerts and apprentice recitals as well as receive professional voice instruction from the artists-in-residence. This program not only helps young professionals start their careers as singers but also fills a void left by public schools faced with budget shortfalls that are forced to cut arts programming. For the 2013-14 season, nine apprentices have joined the program and will perform with DBC during the April spring concert, alongside the artists-in-residence and the member singers.
