Profile
The vascular system is like a giant live oak with a sturdy trunk, strong main branches, and smaller branches extending to the peripheral leaves. Each part needs to be nourished and maintained.
The saying when it comes to the oak “growth is progress and progress is growth” is also true in the treatment of vascular disease and maintenance of vascular health. Florida Heart and Vascular Care at JFK Medical Center is proud to announce an advance in the growth and progress of its vascular division with the addition of Drs. Brian Kelly and Rolla Zarifa. They have brought their specialized expertise for addressing complex aspects of the vascular trunk, the aorta, which carries blood to the rest of the body through increasingly smaller branches and vessels.
This expertise enhances the care team’s ability to treat critical limb ischemia (CLI) to avoid amputations using minimally invasive techniques and minimizing surgical incisions. Minimally invasive techniques are also applied to cerebrovascular disease and stroke prevention with newer and safer stent placement procedures.
By staying abreast of the latest technology, the vascular team has replaced classical open-surgical techniques that use large incisions and often involve extended hospitalizations and rehabilitation with less-invasive procedures such as balloon angioplasty, stent placement, atherectomy, and laser therapy to treat blocked or narrowed arteries in the neck, legs, and elsewhere, in addition to aneurysms.
They also treat venous disease ranging from swollen or “tired” legs to the more advanced conditions of varicose veins, consequences of phlebitis (deep vein thrombosis), and ulcerations with state-of-the-art procedures.
Great advances have been made in life- and limb-saving techniques but one size does not fit all. Each care plan is individualized; the doctors determine which tools and treatments will yield the best results for each patient.
The specialists at Florida Heart and Vascular Care at JFK Medical Center work as a team, delivering compassionate care with the best tools available. Most evaluations can be done in-office, minimizing time and patient disruption. Improve your quality of life and vascular health by scheduling an appointment today.
