Dr. Tom Minas is a leading orthopedic surgeon and the director of the Cartilage Repair Center at the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute. Formerly, he was an attending orthopedic surgeon at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where he practiced for 30 years and remains a Professor Emeritus of orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School.
Internationally recognized for his expertise, Dr. Minas has devoted his career to cartilage transplantation. He pioneered the autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) surgical technique, established the first cartilage repair center in the United States, and recently served as the president of the International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation (ICRS) Society. A large part of Dr. Minas’ career has also been dedicated to joint replacement surgery. Dr. Minas developed and patented custom knee replacements, playing a pivotal role in improving patient outcomes after total knee replacement surgery. Dr. Minas tailors his treatment to the activities and desires of each patient. This allows him to choose the most appropriate joint preserving or prosthetic solution to optimize the functional outcome of each patient.
