Election-Themed Cocktails

Sick of all the political advertisements and arguments? Don’t let Election Week get you down – kick back with one of these tasty presidential-themed cocktails, courtesy of local chefs and mixologists around town.


To start festivities off, 50 Ocean‘s resident mixologist Millie Wilkinson stirred up a bright and beautiful cocktail full of primary colors, fresh fruits, and smooth citrus notes called “The Patriot.”

  • 1.5 oz. New Amsterdam Red Berry Vodka
  • 2 fresh muddled strawberries
  • 2 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • Splash of Blue Curaçao 

Muddle fresh strawberries in a pilsner glass and set aside. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add all ingredients (except Blue Curaçao). Cover and shake until mixed and chilled (about 30 seconds). Strain into the pilsner glass with muddled strawberries and top with Blue Curaçao. Garnish with a fresh strawberry.


The Presidential Gin & Juice

The Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach’s Jové Kitchen & Bar got in on the action by mixing up a savory, star-spangled cocktail perfect for sipping on during this hectic week.

  • 1.5 oz. Botanist Gin
  • 0.5 oz. Grapa
  • 0.5 oz. lime juice
  • 0.25 oz. beet juice
  • 0.5 oz. simple syrup
  • A pinch of caraway seeds
  • A pinch of dill

Pour all ingredients in a shaker over ice, shake, and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a star-shaped white radish accented with blue sea salt.

Creative mixologist Charles Steadman, Managing Partner at Lantana Jack’s and Beverage Director for 1 Hotel South Beach, created two special cocktails – one perfectly suited for the left wing and one for the right.

Kiss My Burro (Democratic Party)

  • 2 oz. Don Julio Blanco Tequila
  • ¾ oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz. honey, blood orange shrub syrup (¾ honey syrup, ¼ blood orange shrub)
  • Muddled basil

Muddle basil in a mixing tin. Add remaining ingredients into mixing tin with ice. Shake and double strain over ice and garnish with a basil leaf.


Trunk Show (Republican Party)

  • 2 oz. Apple & Gold Luster Infused Ketel One
  • 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz. agave syrup
  • 2 dashes of Yuzu Bitters

Combine all ingredients into a mixing tin with ice. Shake well and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with lemon peel.

It’s time to chase away your election-week blues. In downtown West Palm Beach, Grato is serving up the U.S. Blues, a classic, flavorful martini courtesy of General Manager Ryan Zemel.

  • 1 gin
  • 1 chambord
  • 1 St. Germain
  • 0.5 lemon
  • 0.5 simple syrup
  • Splash of dry vermouth 

Pour over ice in a shaker, shake, and strain. Garnish with a twist.

Putin’s Puppet

  • 1.5 oz. Stoli
  • 2 oz. ginger beer
  • Splash of lime juice
  • 1 oz. cranberry juice
  • Lime wedge for garnish

Combine all ingredients, strain over ice, and garnish with lime wedge.

Deplorable

  • 1 oz. grenadine
  • 0.5 oz. Blue Curaçao
  • 1 oz. Tito’s Handmade Vodka
  • 2 oz. Prosecco
  • Sugar for the rim

Sugar the rim of a martini glass and add grenadine, with Blue Curaçao and shaken vodka layered on top. Slowly add Prosecco and garnish with a skewer of strawberries and blueberries.


Bad Hombres

  • 1.5 oz. Milagro Anejo
  • 0.5 oz. Ancho Reyes
  • 2 oz. sour
  • 0.5 oz. orange juice
  • Salt and chili powder for the rim

Strain over big ice in specialty martini glass with jalapeño garnish.
