“Dan Gunderson: A View From Above”
June 17, 2017 - September 3, 2017
Architect Frank Gehry once quipped, “You can look anywhere and find inspiration.” For his visually arresting Toys Are Us series, ceramicist and Stetson University art professor Dan Gunderson finds afflatus in children’s toys. Drawing from his seismic collection of garage sale novelties and vintage bric-a-brac, Gunderson assembles vibrant, figurative patterns and then photographs them from overhead. His one-man exhibition, “Dan Gunderson: A View From Above,” on display June 17 to September 3 at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, showcases more than 30 digital works including Carney, made using plastic insects, Disney characters, and super hero figurines.
