New Installations at Assemblage

July 15, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

ASSEMBLAGE: An Organically Grown Exhibition is a year-long visual art project on the first floor of the Culture Lab, the former Macy’s storefront-turned-immersive-arts-experience in the CityPlace district. Assemblage, which currently features works by artists Ioanna Pantazopoulou (New York/Athens) and Jennifer Steinkamp (Los Angeles), will integrate three new exhibits this month from local artists Amy Gross, Sarah Knouse and Phillip Estlund. Gross’ hand embroidered and beaded fiber sculpture titled Silver Bees and Black and White Warblers, adapting, creates a symbiotic soft green world altered from within by spores that have slowly turned it hard and icy and sharp. Nearby, visitors can view Sarah Knouse’s Leopard Lamp III 2017, a piece part of a series of works that spring from the artist’s exploration of themes including ornamentation and superficial grandeur as they occur on a domestic scale. Estlund’s Untitled will also be on view showcasing sculptures and assemblages reflective of the present day and the tenuous environmental and financial climate at large, constructed from ordinary materials collected from demolition sites – all in advanced stages of decrepitude, further hastened by the volatile South Florida climate. Additional artists will continue to be integrated until the exhibit’s culminating event in December 2018. For more information, please visit www.culturelabwpb.com.
