Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches presents Our Stars Shine Indeed
April 7, 2018 @ 11:30 pm - 11:45 pm
$20Star Light, Star Bright, First Star I See Tonight. So begins the old poem that we recited in our childhoods. However, the Symphonic Band’s presentation of “Our Stars Shine Indeed” will give you at least a half dozen stars to enjoy. Our stars are featured in remarkable solos with the band playing backup. And of course all the regular stars, known as the Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches, will round out the concert with famous and familiar works of music.
The first of two concerts will be held at the Duncan Theatre in Lake Worth on Saturday, April 7, 2018. The following week’s concert is at Eissey Campus Theatre on Saturday, April 14. Both performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, and may be purchased by phone at 561-832-3115, or online at www.symphonicband.org.
“Autumn Soliloquy,” by James Barnes, features oboist Camila Fred. Rachel Gebeloff, another of our student “Stars”, performs the Clarinet Solo, “Solo De Concours” by Messager at the Eissey Campus Theatre, while Lois Richardson performs this clarinet solo at the Duncan Theatre. The 3rd Movement of Antonio Vivaldi’s “Concerto in C Major,” features a beautiful piccolo solo by Chloe Tordi during our show at the Duncan Theatre and Tracy Conner during our Eissey Campus Theatre Show. Rounding out the woodwind Soloists, is our Associate Conductor and Saxophonist, Kyle Mechmet, playing “Saxophone Concertino” by Yagisawa.
Representing our brass section, the Tubas will be featured performing Vincent Youmans’ “Carioca 2”. Percussion student soloists Colin Geller and Adrian Nuñez are featured on the xylophone performing Felix Arndt’s “Nola.”
Our “All Star” Band will perform “Cajun Folk Song,” directed by percussion section leader Steve Amowitz. Our master trumpeters shine in two pieces: “Brassman’s Holiday” and “Valdres,” a Norwegian March.
To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein, the band performs “Overture to Candide.” The remainder of the program includes “Dedicatory Overture” and “Merry Wives of Windsor Overture.” You’ll surely see that Our Stars Shine Indeed!
Proceeds from the Symphonic Band’s concerts benefit scholarships for local music students as well as grant programs and instruments for public school programs. Both performances start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to either performance of “Our Stars Shine Indeed” ($20) can be purchased by phone at 561-832-3115, or online at www.symphonicband.org.
