TRACING THE RED THREAD: MIRA LEHROPENING RECEPTION: NOVEMBER 23, 2018 || 6-10PM
NOVEMBER 15 – JANUARY 2, 2019

Fritz Gallery is pleased to present Tracing the Red Thread, a solo exhibition featuring the work of Mira Lehr. On November 4th, 2018, Lehr closed her solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Miami, which was rated #1 of the top 33 shows to see in the United States this fall by ArtNet News and was featured as a “must-see” exhibition by USA Today. Fresh to the Fritz, many elements from the museum show will be featured at the Fritz Gallery. Mira Lehr is an eco-feminist from Miami whose career spans four decades. Her environmentally-based imagery moves fluidly between painting, sculpture, video and installation. Lehr integrates her work with non-traditional media, such as resin, gunpowder, fire, Japanese paper, dyes and welding steel. Tracing the Red Thread is about searching for solutions for our deteriorating Florida aquatic ecosystem. Each work calls to a specific environmental problem; these environmental needs are inextricable from each other. The ecosystem, like her work suggests, needs to be considered as a whole. Lehr’s attention to detail does something that reminds us that we can be part of a solution – if we pay attention.

The opening reception will take place on Friday, November 23, 2018, from 6-10pm. The Fritz Gallery is located at 211 Royal Poinciana Way, Palm Beach, FL. The gallery is open by appointment only. For more information, please email info@fritzgallery.com, or call (561) 906-5337. For more information about Mira Lehr’s work, please visit https://miralehr.com.

ABOUT THE ARTIST ||
Mira Lehr, originally from New York, spent most of her life in Miami. As a young woman artist in the 50’s and 60’s, Lehr was among the most famous artists working in abstract expressionism. When she moved to Miami, she co-founded the Continuum Gallery, the first woman’s co-op in South Florida. Inspired by her sub-tropical environment, her nature-based paintings, sculptures, and installations include non- traditional media such as resin, gunpowder, fire, Japanese paper, dyes and welded steel. Lehr has affected a new generation of young artists by serving as a mentor. She has taught master classes with the National Young Arts Foundation and has been artist in residence at the Bascom Summer Programs. Her solo and group exhibitions number over 300.
