Executive Women of the Palm Beaches will present the 31st Annual Women in Leadership Awards (WILA) luncheon on Thursday, May 1. The event will be held at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts – 701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach from 11:30 a.m-2 p.m. Join the Executive Women of the Palm Beaches as it recognizes women who have sustained outstanding accomplishments and displayed generosity of spirit, commitment to integrity and diversity, and genuine connectedness with others. This year’s honorees are Christine D. Hanley, Beverly Perham, Reverend Pamela A. Cahoon and Judith A. Mitchell. Frances Fisher, Palm Beach philanthropist, is the honorary chair.
This year’s keynote speaker will be former CIA Operations Officer and best-selling author of Fair Game and Blowback, Valerie Plame. As a covert CIA Operations Officer, Valerie Plame worked to protect America’s national security and prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Without warning, in 2003 she found herself at the heart of a political firestorm when senior White House and State Department officials revealed her secret status to several national journalists–including a syndicated conservative newspaper columnist who published her name. Since her covert identity was compromised, Plame has become a public advocate and respected authority on issues of national security, nuclear proliferation and politics. She is also an activist on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of postpartum depression.
The luncheon raises funds to help promising young women in the community pursue their dream of a college education; it also supports the Lois Kwasman Grant for Community Impact. The Grant is awarded to an organization whose work makes a profound difference in the lives of girls and young women in the community.
