Florida Atlantic University Galleries in Boca Raton will kick off its new exhibition season with “Under the Florida Sun: South Florida Cultural Consortium Visual & Media Artists Fellowship,” on view to the public from September 17 to October 10. The exhibition, curated by Mikhaile Solomon, features the work of 12 preeminent South Florida artists who are recipients of the 2021 South Florida Cultural Consortium awards.
The exhibition’s artists featured artists include: Yanira Collado, Mark Fleuridor, Carla Forte, Juan Pablo Garza, Francisco Maso, Jared McGriff, and Sasha Wortzel (Miami-Dade County); Harume Abe, Zoraye Cyrus, and Catalina Jaramillo (Broward County); Sofia Valiente (Palm Beach County); and Sally Binard (Monroe County).
The Consortium is an alliance of the arts councils of Broward County, Martin County, Miami-Dade County, Monroe County, and Palm Beach County, and conferred the artists with awards of $15,000 or $7,500 grants. In addition to receiving the grants, the artists take part in an exhibition hosted and organized by a visual arts institution in one of the five counties.
The South Florida Cultural Consortium is funded with the support of the Boards of County Commissioners of Broward County, Martin County, Miami-Dade County, and Monroe County, and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County.
