Searching for science-forward happenings? You’re in luck! The Cox Science Center & Aquarium in West Palm Beach will host family-friendly events and activities geared toward grown-ups all season long. The lineup includes Science on Tap at Stormhouse Brewing March 16, Cretaceous Cocktails March 24, the e4 Life: Green Health & Wellness Expo April 1, and more.
Science on Tap welcomes of-age guests for an evening of scientific discussion (and brews!) March 16 at Stormhouse Brewing in North Palm Beach. For the price of a cup of coffee, a craft beer, or a glass of wine, patrons can discuss the latest trends in science and technology with a world-class scientist. Embodying the motto to “drink up—get smart,” the casual education session allows guests to have fun while learning about everyday curiosities. The evening topic will dive into “Saving Coral Saves Your Coast: How coral in your backyard is the foundation of the ocean.” Participation is free starting at 7 p.m. and beverages can be purchased onsite.
Can’t make it for Science on Tap? Science fans can still drink up and get smart March 24, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Of-age paleontologists can sip on Cretaceous Cocktails during elements demonstrations. Admission is $20 for non-members in advance or $25 at the door. Admission includes one complimentary signature cocktail. To register, click here. Guests can also upgrade to sip-and-paint wine glass painting sessions for $35.
On April 1, the museum will host the e4 Life: Green Health & Wellness Expo in partnership with the West Palm Beach Office of Sustainability. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors will learn the importance of having The Everglades in our own backyard, nutrition with foods to live by, the power of composting, and more. Event tickets are included with general paid admission ($20.95 for adults; $18.95 for seniors; $16.95 for children aged 3-12; and free for members). Admission is 50 percent-off for West Palm Beach residents.
The thirty-sixth Annual Engineer It! Competition rounds out the museum’s spring offerings April 15. From 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., students from first to twelfth grades can show off their engineering skills at the engineering design competition jointly presented by the Florida Engineering Society and the Cox Science Center and Aquarium. This year’s categories include creating the perfect egg container to protect an egg from a three-story fall, building a buoyant boat, and constructing a water bottle rocket. Students can win $5,000 in cash and prizes awarded to winners in elementary, middle, and high school categories. Registration is $5 per participant and is open to 400 students. Registration closes April 7.
Spring Break camps are also back! Young scientists and engineers between the ages of 5 and 12 can anticipate sessions loaded with engaging lessons, labs, crafts, and outdoor activities led by science educators. To learn more and register, click here or call (561) 832-2026.
