As the weather begins to turn, pumpkin patches start to sprout throughout the county for families to stroll and find the perfect orange squash to carve into a Jack-O-Lantern. An age-old tradition, the annual walk of the pumpkin patch is the unofficial start to the holiday season (at least for kids and retailers). Some of a parent’s most cherished memories are of those of their toddler waddling through the rows of brightly colored gourds to find the perfectly misshapen pumpkin to bring home for the porch. So in light of the season, palmbeachillustrated.com offers a quick list of some of the pumpkin patches around the corner for you to make some memories of your own.
Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market, Boynton Beach
Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market in Boynton Beach will open its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, September 26 and run every weekend through November 1. The local favorite will feature hayrides around the 80 acres farm, a petting zoo and pony rides, a corn maze (even bigger and better than last year), bounce houses, and lots of food to sate the appetite—homemade ice cream and kettle corn for the kids, award-winning barbecue for the adults, not to mention the food truck lineup (Cider Doughnuts anyone?). On Sunday, October 25, bring the kids (and pets) dressed to the Halloween nines for a costume contest at 2 p.m.
As for pumpkin pickings, the pumpkin patch will be open six days a week (closed Tuesdays). Bring the wee ones to walk along the hey-strewn rows and choose from gourds of every size, shape, and weight.
Pull double duty when making the trek to the Fall Festival and stop by Bedner’s fresh market to load up on just-picked vegetables and fruits, locally made granola, honey, and much more.
