Science on Tap: Poison Perils

Science on Tap - Poison Perils - South Florida Science CenterNot all poisons come with skull and crossbones warning label. Poison is all around you. Seriously. Luckily, the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is here to help with this toxic topic at its latest Science on Tap event on January 15, 7 p.m., at O’Shea’s Irish Pub. From simple household products and prescriptions to food poisoning and pesticides, the amount of toxic, poisonous products in the house is astounding. Wendy Stephan, MPH CHES, Health Education Coordinator at the University of Miami’s Poison Control Center, will help us navigate this increasingly lethal world.

Since joining UM’s Poison Control Center in 2006, Stephan’s job has been to track, and inform the public about, all the new and surprising poisons that we (and our kids and pets) come in contact with on a regular basis. In true Science on Tap fashion, who’s motto “drink up and get smart” speaks to casual educational environment where guests have fun while learning about everyday curiosities, Stephan will walk us through this deadly world in order to help make our homes a safer place. All while enjoying an adult beverage or two!

  • Science on Tap is a free event.
  • O’Shea’s Irish Pub happy hour ($3 draft beers, $4 bottle beers, $1 off well drinks) will begin at 7 p.m. and run through the discussion.
