The City of West Palm Beach will relaunch its beloved Soul in the City Jazz Experience this month. The concert series will be held on the third Wednesday of each month through September, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lake Pavilion in West Palm Beach.
The series kicks off July 17 with a performance Sax in the City featuring saxophonist, singer, songwriter, musician, and Grammy Music Educator Award recipient Mickey Smith Jr.
The fun continues August 21 when Noreena Downey and Dizzy Blue Band take the stage. Noreena Downey and Dizzy Blue Band comprise Florida’s most sought-after jazz musicians and professors of jazz study, combining sultry jazz and upbeat swing renditions of standards, pop, and contemporary.
Spirit of Oya rounds out the series on September 18. Oya began singing at three years old when she first discovered her love for singing in church with her father. Her voice effortlessly traverses the realms of jazz, soul, and gospel. Her originals, like “LOVE” and “Hold on Be Strong,” have topped charts in the United Kingdom, while her renditions of classics, like “Peace in the Valley” and “Accentuate the Positive,” have captivated audiences worldwide.
Tickets are $30, and table reservations for four or more guests are $45 per person. Tickets can be purchased at wpb.org/jazz.
