Spring Forward

PBI caught up with Roopal Patel, Saks Fifth Avenue’s fashion director, for a peek at this season’s must-have items

“Designers on the runway this season—whether it was New York, Milan, or Paris—really gravitated to this idea of neutrality: everything from white to camo, beige, khaki,” says Patel. Spring’s move toward new neutrals is popping up from a range of designers, Patel reports, from Prada to Brunello Cucinelli.

Pouch Punch

Pouches are spring’s hottest handbag, and at the vanguard of the trend is Bottega Veneta, thanks to designer Daniel Lee. “This idea of the clutch and the pouch is really strong, and we’re seeing them in different shapes and sizes,” says Patel. “It’s a very modern-day silhouette. They’re simple, clean, and there’s not a lot of hardware. I think there are a lot of women out there who are excited about the idea of a clean, minimalist bag, and pouches and clutches really allow you to embrace that.”

Natural Wonders

Patel foresees a return to artisanal craftsmanship in the form of ready-to-wear crochet dresses, hand-woven straw bags, and shoes. “We’re seeing this trend of natural wonders coming through many of the accessories [and] collections this season,” she says.
