The Top Local Cups of Coffee

Visit these local roasters and cafés for a quality cup, whether you prefer to brew at home or order to go.

I Need Coffee, Jupiter

Do good chefs make good coffee? Chef David Schroeder of Lake Park’s Brick & Barrel has partnered with childhood friend Brian Stutz to put that question to the test. The beans are from Crux Coffee, the pastries are from Aioli Bakery, and the mugs are produced by Avenue Pottery. Stutz specializes in pour-over coffee, a three-minute process designed to deliver the greatest flavor possible. The name comes from Schroeder’s professed mantra: “I have two young boys at home … I always need coffee.” Delivery and takeout available.

Pumphouse Coffee, Jupiter

Brothers Christian and Alex La Clainche view their role as similar to that of craft brewers: They’re “breaking the rules and using innovative techniques” to deliver the very best from their hand-selected, single-origin coffees, currently available online for purchase. The aromas and flavors fan out from their Jupiter-based roasting facility to a wide range of retailers and cafés throughout Palm Beach and Martin counties. In addition, the brothers’ coffee is poured at Cones and Coffee in Jupiter for grab-and-go. Their motto? “If you hate bad coffee, we should be friends.”

Perk Coffee House, Tequesta

Family-owned since 2017, Perk combines a healthy food menu (think vegan dishes, yogurt bowls, wraps, and hummus flatbreads) with coffee from nearby Pumphouse Coffee Roasters. It also serves matcha, kombucha on tap, and specialty lattes such as collagen and honey lavender. Organic wine and local craft beers round out the offerings. Originally from Los Angeles, the owners describe their venture as “a twist on our take of a Californian-Floridian coffee shop and local eatery.” Takeout available.

Oceana Coffee, Tequesta

When Scott Angelo moved to Jupiter, he discovered how hard it was to get coffee that lived up to his standards. Along with his wife, Amy, he founded Oceana Coffee in 2009. All of their specialty, fair-trade, and organic beans are roasted to order in small batches; although they roast more than 50,000 pounds each year, inventory remains low and the beans are consistently fresh. They work closely with wholesale partners to create custom blends, and they focus on educating both staff and consumers about the glories of a well-made cup. Order coffee beans, ground coffee, coffee and espresso beverages, and breakfast and lunch bites to go online.

La Boulangerie Boul’MichBoca Raton

Boul’Mich, the nickname given to Boulevard St. Michel in Paris’ Latin Quarter, represents the cultural melting pot that permeates this addition to the Town Center at Boca Raton. The Miami-based chain bills itself as a French café with Latin flair, complete with a menu that bridges European and South American favorites. Croque madame and pain perdu coexist with guava and cheese croissants and chorizo empanadas, while the coffee will satisfy international cravings. Unique beverages like the Bombon, which layers condensed milk, espresso, and foam, and the decadent Nutccino, a Nutella-flavored cappuccino with the hazelnut-cocoa spread decorating the rim, make La Boulangerie Boul’Mich a standout. Takeout and delivery available.
