The Cornell Art Museum at Old School Square in Delray Beach will unveil two new exhibitions on October 1, including a fiber arts collaboration honoring the Florida Everglades and an internationally celebrated painter’s return to the museum.
“River of Grass”
The Cornell Art Museum, Fiber Artist Miami Association, and The Center: Hollywood Art & Culture Center will present “River of Grass,” a site-specific installation of works from 12 artists addressing the Florida Everglades’ ecological and cultural narrative. Custom-built, six-foot-square looms serve as both canvas and architectural element, creating corridors of woven environments in the two lower galleries. These sculptural interpretations of this vital Florida ecosystem are both inspired by, and an homage to, Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ 1947 book, The Everglades: River of Grass.
“Marleen De Waele-De Bock: Blooming in Color!”
The Cornell Art Museum will present a Spotlight Feature Exhibition for international artist Marleen De Waele-De Bock in “Marleen De Waele-De Bock: Blooming in Color!” De Waele-De Bock finds inspiration in her natural surroundings, having lived on three different continents and in four countries over the course of her career. Born in Belgium, where she completed her art training, she moved to Mozambique, returned to Belgium, then relocated to South Africa before settling in the United States. Her paintings have grown increasingly expressionistic, with new works beginning from a vague idea or impression and taking shape without initial planning.
The exhibitions will debut during an opening reception on October 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.
